В этом году руководство чешского телеканал СТ1 решило отменить финал. По итогам прошлых двух отборов телеканал решил выдвинуть для участия в конкурсе Евровидение 2009 группу Gipsy.cz. А вот песню, с которой реперы будут выступать в Москве, выбирали зрители в ходе телевизионного голосования…
На суд зрителей Евровидения группа предложила две абсолютно новые песни — «Aven Romale» и «Do You Wanna», и народ отдал предпочтение первой. На обе песни были сняты клипы, которые знакомят нас с новыми участниками в группе (места двух ушедших членов группы заняли четыре новых музыканта, образовав максимальный состав для Евровидения из шести человек). Группа образовалась благодаря репперу Радославу “Gipsy” Банга, он пригласив в нее скрипача Войтеха “Bela” Лавичка, Петра “Durman” Сурмай и Яна “Rotvajler” Сурмай. Стиль исполнения и жанр группы весьма оригинален - она исполняет смесь рэпа, цыганской музыки, фанка и этно-попа, в которую добавлена определенная доля юмора и иронии. На счету у Gipsy.cz два альбома, номинации в Pop Music Academy и приз лучшего нового артиста 2006 года.
Cолист и автор многих песен Радослав Банга, известный также как Gipsy, родился в 1982 году. В 12 лет он написал свой первый текст песни, а через некоторое время начал заниматься хип-хопом. В 1997 году Радек Банга смог создать свой первый музыкальный проект Syndrom Snopp. Он выступал с оркестром Бобана Марковича, участвовал в одном концерте с GZA, пел на многих музыкальных фестивалях.
Войтех “Bela” Лавичка - самый опытный и старший член группы Gipsy.cz. До 15 лет он играл только классическую музыку. В 1992 году решил стать редактором Чешского радио. До работы в Gipsy.cz он вел несколько телешоу, работал в альтернативной группе Deep Sweeden, а также основал одну сам. В настоящее время, кроме сотрудничества с Gipsy.cz Войтех играет в три Сурмаев и в группе Banda.cz.
На решение национального телеканала при выборе представителя Чехии также повлиял огромный успех этой группы. Недавно ребята выпустили альбом «Represent» и организовали, в его поддержку, тур по Европе. Песни из этого альбома заняли высокие позиции не только в чешских хит-парадах, но и засветились в World Music Charts Europe.
